I will never be as good as my mother : Angelina

Los Angeles,-Hollywood superstar Angelina
Joile, who raises six kids with partner Brad Pitt, says she
pales in comparison to her own mother Marcheline Bertrand, who
passed away in 2007.
She has three biological children with Pitt
Shiloh, 5, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 3. They also have
three adoptive children Maddox, 10, Pax, 8, and Zahara, 6,
reported People magazine.
"My mother was a full-time mother. She didn't have much
of her own career, her own life, her own experiences.
Everything was for her children. I will never be as good a
mother as she was. I will try my best, but I don't think I
ever will be. She was the most generous, loving woman. She's
better than me," Jolie said.
The actress said that talking about her mother is her
soft spot, but she's grateful for the lessons Bertrand taught
her about motherhood.

New book discloses Rabindranath Tagore son's untold story

Kolkata,-With some rare and unpublished
letters and photographs, a new book reveals the untold story
of Rabindranath Tagore's eldest son Rathindranath Tagore
during his last days when he was hit with controversies.
Written by Tagore scholar Nilanjan Bandyopadhyay, the
Bengali book 'Apni Tumi Roile Dure: Shongo Nishongota O
Rathindranath' throws light on the last nine years of
Rathindranath and his controversial relationship with Dehradun
professor Meera Devi.
"This period of his life was very valuable as he was hit
with ego problems. There were some controversies and
allegations that had made his life difficult," Bandyopadhyay
told PTI after the book's release at Oxford Bookstore here.
Besides being an agriculturist, a talented architect,
designer, master-carpenter, painter and writer, Rathindranath
(1888-1961) was also the first 'upacharya' of Visva-Bharati
University, started by his father.
The book sources its material primarily from the letters
exchanged between Rathindranath, Mira and her husband Nirmal
Chandra Chattopadhyay.
All these 150 letters were so far a part of private
collection of Mira's son Jayabrata Chattopadhyay.
"Rathindranath and Mira had lived together in Dehrudan
leading to rumours of an affair between them," Bandyopadhyay
said.
"These letters were private till a point of time. But
everybody should know about this after a certain time. It's
all about Rathindranath's struggle and his feelings," said
Jayabrato, who is now co-directing a documentary on the same
subject.
Around 20 unseen photographs taken from Jayabrata's
collection and from Tagore's archive in Shantiniketan have
also been included in the book.

Gene that allows some to get by on
four hours' sleep 'found'
London,-Scientists have discovered a gene
which they claim holds the key to the secret of an internal
alarm clock which allows some people to get by on just four
hours of sleep a night.
A team at the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich has
identified the gene, called ABCC9, that can reduce the length
of time people sleep. The same gene has previously been linked
to heart disease and diabetes.
The scientists have based their findings on a Europe-wide
survey which saw nearly 4,000 people from seven countries fill
out a questionnaire assessing their sleep habits.
They then analysed their answers as well as participants'
genes. The findings revealed that people who had two copies of
one common variant of ABCC9 slept for "significantly shorter"
periods than people with two copies of another version.
Having already established that the ABCC9 gene was also
present in fruitflies, the team were able to modify it in the
animal and shorten the length of time for which it slept, the
'Daily Mail' reported.
Lead author said: "Apparently the relationships of
sleep duration with other conditions such as heart disease and
diabetes can be in part explained by an underlying common
molecular mechanism.

Migratory birds flock to Kashmir
Srinagar,-With winter setting in Kashmir,
over six lakh migratory birds from Europe and Central Asia
have flocked to Hokersar bird reserve and other wetlands in
the Valley.
Every year, thousands of migratory birds from Siberia,
the Philippines, eastern Europe, China and Japan fly long
distances to escape extreme winter conditions in their native
places and search for food.
Besides Hokersar, the winged visitors flocked to Wullar
lake and other wetlands like Hygam, Shalibugh and Mirgund in
surrounding areas.
"Over six lakh birds have already arrived in the Valley
and 4,000 to 5,000 winged visitors are coming daily...If this
trend continues, we might have an all time high arrival of
migratory birds in the wetlands this year," Wildlife Warden
Abdul Rauf Zargar said.
Last year, nearly eight lakh winged visitors arrived in
Kashmir.
Brahminy Duck, Tufted Duck, Gadwall, Garganey, Greylag
Goose, Mallard, Common Merganser, Northern Pintail, Common
Pochard, Ferruginous Pochard, Red-Crested Pochard, Ruddy
Shelduck, Northern Shoveler, Common Teal, and Eurasian Wigeon
are some of the most sighted birds in the wetlands.

Ultrasonography clinic sealed
Srinagar,—Health officials in Jammu and
Kashmir have sealed an illegal ultra sonography clinic in
Shopian district as part of its ongoing drive to curb female
foeticide in the state.
"Ultrasonography clinic Khansa Diagnostic Centre in
Shopian was sealed yesterday for functioning illegally...It
was earlier sealed in April but had started unauthorised
operation few weeks ago," the spokesman said.
A case has been registered against the owner of the
diagnostic centre, he said.
The state government launched a massive drive against
illegal sonography centres after the Census 2011 revealed
drastic dip in child sex ratio in Jammu and Kashmir. Over 150
such clinics have been sealed for misuse of ultrasound to
determine sex of foetuses.
Meanwhile, a special squad of Drug and Food Control
Organisation sealed two shops at Chadoora in Budgam district
after they were found involved in illegal sale of psychotropic
drugs.

World's first water-powered radio!

London,-Here's some good news for energy-
conscious music fans -- scientists claim to have created the
world's first water-powered radio.
It's inventor, Vivian Black, who helped turn the Wind-Up
Radio into a global success in the 1990s, says his water-proof
radio is powered by the motion of water flowing into a shower,
'The Daily Telegraph' reported.
The H20 water-powered radio clips onto the water pipe
that runs up to a shower head. Using micro turbine technology,
the radio is powered by the water pressure running up a pipe,
says its inventor.
"Having seen huge success with the commercialisation of
the Wind-Up Radio, we were constantly looking into new ways
that further innovations in the radio sector could be made.
"Creating the now-patented micro turbine technology, that
allows the radio to operate solely through the flow of water,
was the key to our new innovation; and thus the world's first
water-powered shower radio was created," Black, the managing
director of Tango Group, the radio's manufacturer, said.
A spokesperson for the company added: "The radio runs on
energy generated solely through the flow of water, starting as
the shower is turned on. It harnesses power that'd otherwise
literally go straight down the drain."

'Trishna' is second Indian film: Frieda
Panaji,-Actress Freida Pinto, who plays the
lead in British director Michael Winterbottom's 'Trishna', a
modern adaptation of Thomas Hardy's novel 'Tess of the
d'Urbervilles', says she considers it her second Indian film
after 'Slumdog Millionaire'.
She became an overnight star with her
role of Latika in Danny Boyle's India-based story and
'Trishna' is set in India, just like 'Slumdog' and has Indian
characters despite being directed by a British filmmaker.
Pinto, however, is yet to star in a film in her native
country.
"For me this is my second Indian film. It doesn't matter
who makes the film, it is Indian in its essence. 50 per cent
of the dialogues are in Marwari and Hindi. Even a film like
'Gandhi' was made in English but is very much Indian," Pinto
said at the 42nd Indian International Film Festival here.
Interestingly, after she claimed that 'Trishna' is her
second Indian film, Pinto, who is yet to star in an Indian
production, she was asked what her first Indian film was.
'Slumdog Millionaire,' was her answer.
'Trishna' has been shot in Rajasthan and Mumbai, starring
Pinto as an Indian village girl who falls in love with a rich
man.
"We shot in a real setting in a remote village in Ossian
in Rajasthan. We lived with a real family and the shots of
everyday life are very real.
There is a scene in the film where Pinto's character is
eve-teased on the roads of Jaipur. "People came out to help me
because they thought I was actually being harassed," said
Pinto.

Pooja out of Bigg Boss
New Delhi,-'Bigg Boss' contestant Pooja
Misrra was shown the exit door from the so called reality show
after she reportedly got physically violent with co-contestant
Siddharth.
Misrra, who spent eight long weeks in the house, was
asked
to leave after being given several warnings about her erratic
behaviour, which resulted in fights with other inmates of the
house.
She was elected as the captain this week but the model
lost her cool during an argument with Siddharth and allegedly
pushed him.
Apart from Misrra, the house will lose another member
through the eviction process. The members who are in danger
zone include Mehak, Pooja Bedi, Akashdeep and
Siddharth.

 CPI(M)demands to make Kisenji's post-mortem report public
Kolkata,-The CPI(M) today demanded that
Maoist leader Kisenji's post-mortem report be made public,
saying the controversy over his killing could be set at rest
only by it.
"What really happened will be known only after the
post-mortem report is made public. We think it is the West
Bengal government's responsibility to make the report public,"
CPI(M) state secretary Biman Bose told newsmen here.
Stating that there was a controversy on how Kisenji
was killed, he said the post-mortem should be done in keeping
with the guidelines of the National Human Rights Commission
and by involving forensic experts.

 UK women 'fattest in Europe'
London,-It's official. Women in the UK are
the fattest in Europe, according to the European Union.
It's data agency Eurostat, which looked at 19 countries,
found nearly a quarter of UK women, 23.9 per cent were
recorded as being obese in the year 2008 to 2009. Just over 22
per cent of UK men were classed obese coming second to Malta.
Statisticians found the share of overweight and obese
people increases with age in all of the 19 member states that
data was available for.
After the UK, the countries with the highest levels of
female obesity were Malta, with 21.1 per cent, and Latvia,
where 20.9 per cent fulfilled that criteria.
Meanwhile, after Malta and the UK, the countries with the
highest instances of male obesity were Hungary where 21.4
per cent fall into that category and the Czech Republic,
where 18.4 per cent are classed as such.
The UK's high levels of obesity are in stark contrast to
those in countries such as Romania, where just 8 per cent of
women were classed as obese along with 7.6 per cent of men.
Obesity levels were also found to be low in Italy,
Bulgaria and France. In Italy, 9.3 per cent of women were
found to be obese and 11.3 per cent men.
Meanwhile, in Bulgaria levels of obesity for women and
men were found to be 11.3 per cent and 11.6 per cent, with
levels of France identified as being 12.7 per cent and 11.7
per cent respectively, the 'BBC' reported.
The figures suggested that the proportion of women who
are obese or overweight falls as the educational level rises.

Acting was not my first love: Arjun Rampal
New Delhi,-He has been in the industry for
over a decade and has given hits like 'Om Shanti Om', 'Rock
On' and 'Rajneeti' but actor Arjun Rampal says acting was not
his first love as he wanted to join the army.
Rampal, who started his career in the industry with 2001
release 'Pyaar Ishq Aur Mohabbat', said acting happened
by chance.
"I always wanted to get into army considering I was
brought up in that environment, I saw my grandfather fighting
for the country and always living a disciplined life.
"I also wanted to make a difference but I guess life had
some different plans and I became an actor. I met Rohit Bal
and got my first break as a model and since then it has never
been looking back. I definitely don't regret making the
choice," Rampal told here.
Although the 38-year-old's initial years in the industry
were rough he says he didn't let the bad times break him down.
"Their was a time when I had lost faith in myself and
would sit at home and get frustrated and worried that no one
is going to offer me work but at that time my family was my
biggest support.
"The only thing which kept me going then was that I have
to prove people wrong who think that I can't act. Today, I am
confident about myself and proud that I was considered to do
such a big event like F1 and was able to put up a great show
with Lady Gaga," Rampal added.

Chitrangada happy to make foray into commercial cinema
Mumbai,-Hot Actress Chitrangada Singh is excited
about her first commercial release 'Desi Boyz' with Akshay
Kumar and John Abraham but says the shift from off-beat cinema
was not planned.
Chitrangada became famous with her role in Sudhir
Mishra's 'Hazaron Khwahishen Aisi' (2003) and her second film
'Kal' in 2005. But then she vanished from the big screen for
three years only to return with director Onir's film 'Sorry
Bhai' in 2008 followed by Mishra's another film 'Yeh Saali
Zindagi' this year.
"What is different about commercial films is there are
so many changes like there is so much of make-up, different
hair styles, slow motion shots etc. The exciting part was you
glam-up for a role, you dance, you have those fantastic
clothes, high heels and that whole girly thing," Chitrangada
told PTI in an interview.
"In the end a girl is a girl, we all love these things. I
had a great time doing all this," she said.
Chitrangada is officially foraying into commercial cinema
with Rohit Dhawan's 'Desi Boyz' opposite Akshay Kumar.
"I don't think it is like a plan that I would do now do
commercial films. I enjoy it and I hope I can carry it
forward. Its a good shift. Like I did off beat films for some
time and now I will to do this for some time," she said.
Ask her about promotional strategies for both kind of
cinema, Chitrangada, feels, commercial cinema brings in more
recognition and connects with a larger audience.
"Promotions are stronger for commercial films. The
numbers, the budget is high for marketing, there is a proper
team. When there is a niche film you do it on that level. It
is a great and different experience," she said.

Last season winner Shweta Tiwari not a
 big fan of 'Bigg Boss'
Mumbai,-TV actress Shweta Tiwari, who won
the last season of 'Bigg Boss', is not a fan of the popular
reality show as she finds hardly anything interesting in it.
In fact, she says she has never really watched any episode
of the show since only 'hatred' is shown to viewers while the
'fun-element' is edited.
"I have never watched any season of Bigg Boss because
I don't find it interesting. I went into the house because the
money they offered me was huge and there was no way I could
say no to it. While I was there in the house, we used to play
kho-kho every evening and had lots of fun but all they
showed was fights and hatred," Shweta told here.
"Though Dolly Bindra was abusive but like everyone else,
she had positive points too, but nobody was interested in
that. Veena Malik used to recite to us verses from the Quran,
she even learnt to chant the Gayatri mantra, but all this was
never shown," she said.
Meanwhile, talking about her career and future plans,
the actor says that she is open to any role that is exciting.
"I am not obsessed about doing films. I will not sit at
home hoping for a film to come my way. Also, it is not like I
am choosy about doing films. I don't ask which banner is
making the film. What I look for is that the role should
excite me. I don't want to be there just looking pretty and
doing nothing," she said.
Shweta feels women get to dominate the small screen.
"I feel women are ruling the small screen while men rule
the big screen. As most TV shows are women-centric, actresses
get to perform strong women characters on small screen. Also,
because there are more women who comprise the audience base
for television shows...they sympathise, relate to the
protagonists in daily soaps," she said.
